Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for this program, you must submit your application with evidence of the following:
- Be an Australian citizen.
- Be studying full-time at an Australian university in a STEM degree, including Honours or Masters.
- Have successfully completed at least 12 months of your degree by the time you start the cadetship.
- Plan to complete your studies between the end of Semester 2, 2024, and the end of Semester 2, 2026.
- Have a minimum credit average (GPA ≥ 5 on a 7-point scale).
Be willing to complete an Honours or Masters degree if required for certain placements.
Skills you need
To be suitable for a STEM cadetship role, you should have most or all of the following skills:
- Curiosity: An interest in using STEM to solve real-world problems.
- Communication Skills: The ability to communicate your ideas clearly and effectively.
- Teamwork: A willingness to work as part of a team in a supportive and professional environment.
- Positive Attitude: A proactive and enthusiastic approach to learning and contributing to projects.

Locations
STEM Cadetship placements are available across Australia, with most roles based in Canberra. You will be employed in a Defence Group or Service relevant to your degree and have the opportunity to work on exciting projects, including those based at APS Academy Campuses in Townsville and Newcastle.
