Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for this program, you must:

  • Be an Australian citizen at the time of application.
  • Be willing to undergo any police, character, health or other checks required.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a valid Australian Government security clearance once accepted onto the program when required, further information on security clearances is available Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA).

Skills you need

To be suitable for a Digital Traineeship role, you should have most or all of the following skills:

  • The capacity to build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Personal drive and initiative
  • Problem-solving skills and sound judgement
  • Ability to collaborate in a team
  • Ability to cope well under pressure and maintain integrity
  • Ability to support workplace culture

Locations

Positions available are dependent on the agencies you are matched with. Program participants may be able to access flexible office arrangements. Options depend on the role and the employing agency’s business needs. Managers will discuss working arrangements and employment terms with participants and their mentors.

What to expect in this program

Participants gain valuable skills and experience throughout the program, working alongside dedicated people in the Digital profession. This program consists of:

  • Foundations and fundamentals training before commencing with your employing agency
  • On-the-job learning and development opportunities
  • Program support system from managers, the Digital Traineeship Program team and mentors
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Support and mentorship from dedicated managers, mentors and the Digital Traineeship Program Team
  • Individual learning plans to support and build the skills needed to succeed
  • Prescribed training towards or equivalent to a Certificate IV or Diploma in a digital field.

Application Process

Online application

Approximately 1 month

Your application is received and assessed based on eligibility, written pitch, relevant skills and resume.

Assessment and interview

1-2 weeks

You will complete an online cognitive test and have an online one-way video interview.

Reference checks

1-2 weeks

We will conduct online reference checks with your nominated referee. We may also contact your references during the interview stage. Please note that contacting referees does not guarantee a suitable outcome.

Additional agency specific reference checks may be conducted if you are found suitable for the merit pool and are matched with an agency role.

Preferences and matching

Approximately 1 month

If we determine you are suitable, we will ask you for your preferred agencies and locations and will aim to match you with them.

Offer

Well done! You have received an offer from one or more Australian Government agency/agencies. If you accept your offer, your placement agency will then contact you to begin the onboarding process.
