Australian Bureau of Statistics

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) provides statistics on a wide range of social, population, and environmental matters, covering government, business, and the community.

About us

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) collect and analyse data about Australia and its people. Our statistics inform government policy, support business planning and help communities understand social and economic change.

We were established over 100 years ago and operate under the Australian Bureau of Statistics Act 1975. We produce statistics across economic, social, population, and environmental areas. We also coordinate statistical activities across government to ensure consistency and quality.

Our work supports decision-making at all levels, helping Australia understand social and economic change.
