Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for VetPaths you must:
• Have joined the Australian Public Service (APS)
• Have served at least one day in the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
Applications from all members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF), including reservists are welcomed.
What skills do you need?
To succeed in VetPaths, you should have:
• Adaptability: A willingness to transition into a new environment and learn new skills.
• Teamwork: The ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting.
• Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively in the APS environment.

Locations
Participating agencies offer roles across various Australian locations. Locations will be provided on the vacancy descriptions listed by participating agencies.
What to expect in this program
The purpose of VetPaths is to highlight APS employment opportunities to veterans and to provide a structured support system once employed. VetPaths supports veterans by ensuring they have access to resources and connections that promote career readiness, personal development and wellbeing.
VetPaths will be offered to those participating in the pathway as soon as practicable from commencement, however this may occur at set intervals depending on demand and availability. With a pathway period offered at least every six months.
The pathway start date will be determined in collaboration with participating agencies.

Application Process
Participating agency vacancies
To be considered for VetPaths, you must join the Australian Public Service (APS) through one of the agencies participating in the pathway. You will have to be successful in securing a position at one of these agencies. Each agency is responsible for managing the recruitment of their own vacancies. For a list of agencies participating in VetPaths, please view the ‘Where you could work’ tab at the bottom of the page.
Participating agencies will advertise all their vacancies on the APSJobs website.
Job advertisements that offer the VetPaths pathway are currently available from a number of participating agencies. Additional agencies will be included in the near future. Interested applicants can sign up to job alerts to ensure they are notified when a role tagged with ‘VetPaths’ is advertised.

Applying for vacancies
When a position of interest is found on the APSJobs website, selecting “Apply Now” redirects to the advertising agency’s website to begin the application process. You will complete the application for the role on the advertising agency’s website. You can learn more about the eligibility criteria for a specific agency or role by referring to that agency's website.
Participating in VetPaths
Participating agencies can offer veterans engaged through their recruitment processes the opportunity to participate in VetPaths.
Veterans can opt out if they do not want to participate in the pathway.
