Net Zero Economy Authority
About us
We are a new government agency set up to lead Australia’s transition into a carbon neutral future. Reshaping how we produce energy, work, and live is crucial for a sustainable economy.
Our job is to make sure Australia’s move to a net zero economy is orderly, fair, and positive. We are working directly with investors, businesses, regions and communities – including supporting First Nations peoples to engage with and benefit from the transition.
We pursue our mission by:
- Engaging with regions, workers and industries affected by the transition to net zero to develop and deliver strategies to facilitate economic development and adjustment.
- Mobilising supports for workers impacted by the transition to net zero, such as workers in closing power stations, including by administering the legislated Energy Industry Jobs Plan.
- Helping to facilitate investment in new and decarbonised industries, especially where this creates jobs and economic opportunities for regions affected by the transition to net zero.
- Communicating and engaging with regions, workers and industries affected by the transition to net zero to build understanding of, and engagement with the change and associated government supports.
- Informing and influencing government policy so that it is responsive to the objective of an orderly and positive transition to a net zero economy.
