Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

We promote and protect the interest of Australia and Australians internationally. We provide foreign trade and development policy advice to the government.

About us

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) advance Australia's international interests and contribute to global peace, security, and economic growth. We manage Australia's diplomatic relations, trade negotiations and development partnerships.

From Australia and across our overseas posts, we build relationships and provide strategic advice to government. We deliver international development and humanitarian assistance, lead crisis response efforts and provide consular passport services.

We work across policy, trade, corporate, and operational areas to support Australia's role in the world.
