Australian Electoral Commission

The AEC maintains an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters. We manage the electoral roll and deliver efficient polling services for Australians. We run targeted education and public awareness programs.

About us

We offer a unique opportunity to be part of a passionate team that together deliver world-class electoral services at the core of our Australian democracy. With us you will undertake meaningful and rewarding work of national significance. You will play an important role in running federal elections, Australia’s largest peacetime logistical events.

What we offer

We don’t rest between delivering federal elections, by elections or referendums to the Australian public. Some of the exciting and important work our school leavers and graduates undertake outside of working in the federal electoral events include:

  • Advising the public, governments and AEC on policy, procedure, and regulation of electoral matters in Australia.
  • Engaging with Australians through social media platforms, educational and outreach programs, and visual reporting tools for election results and transparency.
  • Streamlining and improving business and electoral processes and policies.
  • Preparing for the next electoral event through the creation of roadmaps, procuring materials and updating processes.
  • Transforming the engines of democracy by working to update and replace core election systems with modern, secure and agile technologies.

If you are looking for a workplace where you will have the opportunity to work in a collaborative and friendly environment and see the impact of your work, the AEC is the place for you.

Locations

All graduate and school leaver positions are located in the National Office in Canberra. For graduates relocating from outside of Canberra and surrounding areas relocation assistance may be provided.

During electoral event periods graduates may undertake placements to support the delivery of the event.
