Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the Data Stream in the Australian Government Graduate Program (AGGP), you must:
- Be an Australian citizen at the time of application
- Have completed at least an Australian Qualifications Framework Level 7 qualification (a Bachelor degree), or higher equivalent by 31 December 2025
- Have completed your most recent eligible qualification between 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2025
- Be able to obtain and maintain a valid Australian Government security clearance if required
- Be willing to undergo any police, character, health, or other checks required.
Skills you need
To be suitable for a Data Graduate role, you should have most or all of the following skills:
- Proficient data technical skills
- Strong communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Locations
Most positions are available in Canberra, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney.
A limited number of positions may be available in Darwin, Geelong, Hobart, Newcastle and Townsville.
Roles are full-time, with potential for flexible work arrangements depending on your placement agency.

Application Process
Initial application
Your application is assessed based on eligibility, written communication, academic transcript and resume.
As part of the application process, you will be required to include your latest academic transcript for each qualification (including overseas qualification assessment advice for qualifications completed overseas).
Assessment and interview
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to complete a data skills assessment. High-performing candidates will be invited to an online interview with two or three panel members, lasting about 45 minutes.
Reference checks
We will conduct reference checks with your nominated referee. Please note that contacting referees does not guarantee a positive outcome.
Preferences and matching
Suitable candidates will be placed in a merit pool and will be invited to submit their preferences for agencies and locations. While there is no guarantee of placement with a specific agency, candidate preference will be taken into consideration wherever possible.
