At the Department of Education, we create a better future for all Australians through education.

Our role is important, and our work makes a difference:

  • We provide strategic direction and national leadership of Australia’s education system. Our focus is on education in the early years, school, higher education and research.
  • We advise the Australian Government on education.
  • We champion the government’s vision for reforming Australia’s education system.

We are committed to supporting entry level participants. We help them to expand their skills and gain experience. Our participants reach their full potential while working on issues that matter.

What we offer

Whatever pathway you choose to kickstart your career in the APS, you will be supported when you join us. We pride ourselves on our positive, supportive and inclusive workplace culture.

By joining us, you can develop a range of transferable skills. These include research capabilities, and strategic and innovative thinking. You can also build on communication and problem solving skills. 

We are dedicated to helping you gain experience in the processes of government. This includes understanding and following legislation. You can expand network in the department and across the APS.

Locations

We participate in a range of programs that are primarily located in Canberra. There may be some opportunities available interstate. Relocation assistance is available for candidates who need to relocate to Canberra.
