Eligibility criteria 

To be eligible for the Digital Stream in the Australian Government Graduate Program (AGGP), you must submit your application with evidence of the following: 

  • Have completed an Australian Qualifications Framework Level 7 qualification (Bachelor degree), or higher in a digital technical field by 31 December 2026. Find out if your degree is eligible.
  • Have completed your degree between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2026.
  • Be an Australian citizen at the time of application.
  • Be willing to undergo police, character, health, or other checks as required.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a valid Australian Government security clearance when required. For more information, refer to the Australian Government Vetting Agency (AGSVA).

Skills you need

To be suitable for a Digital Graduate role, you should have most or all of the following skills: 

  • Strong interest in digital technology and innovation.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Locations

Positions are available in Canberra. A limited number of positions may be available nationwide in major cities. Relocation assistance may be available for successful candidates.

Application Process

1. Initial application

Approximately six weeks

Submit your application online. We will assess your eligibility for the program and if deemed suitable, you will be shortlisted to proceed to the next stage.

2. Assessments and interviews

Approximately two months

If shortlisted, you will complete online aptitude tests, and if you progress to the next stage, your written pitch is assessed. Successful candidates will participate in a one-way online video interview.

Reference checks

Approximately one month

Your references will be contacted.

3. Preferences and matching

Approximately one month

Suitable candidates are placed in the merit pool ready to be matched with a suitable government department or agency.  Your qualifications, skills, experience and work location preferences are used to make sure you are perfectly matched and placed.  Once matched, the department or agency will contact you to discuss.

4. Receive offers

Approximately six weeks

If you are offered employment, the government department or agency will make you an offer, undertake pre-employment checks and complete your onboarding process.
