Eligibility criteria 

Applicants should demonstrate a genuine interest in digital technology and a strong desire to enhance digital literacy and proficiency within the government. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals ready to apply their knowledge and skills to help shape Australia's digital future. 

To be eligible for the Digital Stream in the Australian Government Graduate Program (AGGP), you must: 

  • Be an Australian citizen at the time of application
  • Hold or be completing a bachelor’s degree in a digital or technical field (or higher) by 31 December 2025. 
  • Have completed your degree between 1 January 2021 and 31 December 2025. Check here to see if your degree is eligible. 
  • Be willing to undergo police, character, health, or other checks as required
  • Be able to get and maintain an Australian Government security clearance

You will have the following skills: 

  • Digital or technical – Passion for digital technology and solutions
  • Adaptability – Adapt to new technologies, ability to learn quickly and expand your digital knowledge, and apply them
  • Communication – Strong written and verbal communication
  • Collaboration and teamwork – Effectively work in multidisciplinary teams by openly communicating, actively listening and sharing to build respectful and productive teams
  • Problem solving – Approach challenges logically, analyse problems critically and develop solutions
  • Enthusiasm – Keen to work on things that make a positive impact and difference

Locations

Most graduate positions are located in Canberra, with some opportunities available nationwide in major cities.  Relocation assistance may be available for successful candidates.

Application Process

1. Initial application

Submit your application online. We will assess your eligibility for the program and if deemed suitable, you will be shortlisted to proceed to the next stage.

2. Assessments

If shortlisted, you will complete online aptitude tests, and if you progress to the next stage, your written pitch is assessed. Successful candidates will participate in a one-way online video interview.

3. Matching

Suitable candidates are placed in the merit pool ready to be matched with a suitable government department or agency.  Your qualifications, skills, experience and work location preferences are used to make sure you are perfectly matched and placed.  Once matched, the department or agency will contact you to discuss.

4. Employment offers

If you are offered employment, the government department or agency will make you an offer, undertake pre-employment checks and complete your onboarding process.
