Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the HR Stream in the AGGP, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be an Australian citizen at the time of application.
- Have completed, or be completing by 31 December 2024, at least a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field (e.g., Business, Psychology, Commerce, Arts).
- Your most recent eligible qualification must have been completed between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2024.
- Be able to obtain and maintain a valid Australian Government security clearance.
- Be willing to undergo any police, character, health, or other checks required.
Skills you need
To be suitable for an HR Stream role, you should have most or all of the following skills:
- Interest in undertaking meaningful work that serves the Australian community
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Social skills
- Ability to contribute to a professional, respectful, and positive workplace
- Willingness to learn and adapt

Locations
Most positions are located in Canberra, but some departments and agencies also offer roles in other cities like Brisbane, Melbourne, Geelong, Sydney, Adelaide, and Perth. Relocation assistance may be available for successful candidates.

Application Process
Initial application
Applications are managed through the ATO's eRecruitment system. You will need to provide personal information, qualification details, and your current academic transcript.
Online skills assessment
Shortlisted candidates will complete an online skills assessment to help us understand your HR skills and capabilities.
Assessment centre
Selected candidates will attend a virtual assessment centre via Microsoft Teams, which may include activities like a behavioural interview, presentation, or group activity.
Matching
Successful candidates will be placed into a merit pool and asked to provide agency preferences. We will match you with an appropriate participating agency based on your preferences, experience, and location.
Offer
If successfully placed, an agency will contact you to discuss an offer of employment, likely starting from August 2024.
